The Moves

Wow, am I some kind of mom-type person already. I hate it when the little fetal boy goes a long time without moving. Yet, yesterday he was doing some kind of triathlon in there all day and night, and since I was so busy from 8:00-5:00 with administrative work (it being the beginning of the semester and all, a hectic time for writing program administrators everywhere, I would guess), I felt guilty all day about not being able to stop, concentrate on the movement, and really appreciate it.

But last night, I was reading on the chaise, and the Sweetest Cutest Little Thing happened. I happened to have my hand on my belly, and I got a big kick which was more like an isometric stretch. Anyway, I think I had his little foot* in the palm of my hand for a few seconds. I loved getting a sense of how big the foot was. Then, later, as I was in bed watching The Wire, I think he did it again, but with his head.

* or hand, or elbow, who can say?

The Moves

Oh, how sweet! THis happened when my daughter was in utero . . . I held her foot in my hand, and it was so amazing. In some significant ways, she wasn't really real until that happened. I'm glad you could experience it with your child. :-)

When my wife was pregnant,

When my wife was pregnant, we liked to think we were occasionally playing with our daughter. she'd kick, we'd tap, back and forth.

One night after a spicy dinner with some friends, she kicked and kicked and did acrobatics through the play we went to see after dinner. The next morning, she didn't move. By the afternoon, we were freaked and called the doc. Doc told my wife to drink some apple juice and lay down on her left side. In no time at all, the baby was kicking up a storm.

Anyhow, enjoy. We are expecting #2 this June.

aliens inside me

both with TT and Bubba i always got so freaked out. i could clearly see feet, elbows, and hands pushing through my skin. i thought they really wanted to break out into the world. i couldn't help but think i was being invaded by aliens. maybe i've got too much feminist film theory on the brain... still, i always kept my little camera close by trying to catch 'em in the act (couldn't help it)

miss u!
