Books purchased at Charlotte airport

1. Smart Organizing: Simple Strategies for Bringing Order to Your Home, by Sandra Felton (the organizer lady!). I'm the biggest sucker for this 43folders kind of stuff. Jonathan will be so exasperated upon reading this post.

2. The Nanny Diaries, by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus. Various friends have been telling me to read this book for years, so why not now?

3. The Cylons' Secret, by Craig Shaw Gardner. Until now, I have never read one of those "based on the TV series" novels, though I have been very tempted, especially with books related to the Buffyverse, Star Trek, and to a lesser extent, Star Wars. I'm bracing myself for something abysmal.

xtianity warning!

I too am sth of a sucker for the 43folders kind of stuff, but I want to save your readers (and potentially you!) from the first book you bought. I ordered it upon reading about it here, and it turns out to be an extended argument for the right-wing Christian life. It more or less says that keeping order makes god happy. I found that part relatively amusing, but I finally put the book down when I read the 'example' list of priorities for a family (from the highest [5] to the lowest [0]):

5. Spiritual development. Church attendance, family and personal Bible reading at home, particiaption in church and outreach and activities.

4. Family togetherness. The family has decided that Mom should stay home with the children . . .
3. Support Dad in his work. Dad strategizes for promotions . . .

2. Finances.

1. Education. Mom is finishing her college education. The kids may need to pitch in more with cooking and house care.

There should be warning stickers for this kind of thing!! Sigh.

D'oh

I saw a bit of that in the book but didn't think anything of it; I didn't realize it went so far as right wing, aargh! (I haven't gotten around to reading it yet; I started with Nanny Diaries and am now on the Battlestar book, which I'll go ahead and recommend that you not get -- it's merely so-so.) I'm sorry I steered you toward the Felton book.

no worries!

you didn't steer! there's nothing in your post that recommends it. i'm just not sure what to do with it now.

(nanny diaries is totally fun. i gobbled that up over winter break.)
